In today’s trucking industry, team driving for CDL-A drivers is one of the best ways to increase earning potential and keep freight moving efficiently. Having a reliable co-driver means more than just sharing the road—it means having someone you trust to keep the truck moving while you rest, while working together to maximize your pay.
Whether you’re teaming with a friend, spouse, or family member, team truck driving jobs offer a unique opportunity to earn more while experiencing life on the road together. Simply put: by keeping the truck moving more consistently as a team, you can cover more miles overall, leading to higher pay.

What Makes a Successful Team Driving Partnership?
Not every driving team is the same. The most successful CDL team drivers build strong working relationships based on trust, communication, and shared goals. Here are a few key tips to keep in mind for building a successful team:

Prioritize Communication
Clear, consistent communication is essential. Talk through schedules, preferred driving shifts, rest breaks, and expectations early on.

Plan & Coordinate Every Mile
High-performing teams don’t leave things to chance. From fuel stops to route planning and shift changes, coordination helps maximize efficiency while staying compliant with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.

Stay Organized in the Cab
Sharing a truck means sharing a living space. Keeping the cab clean and organized reduces stress and creates a more comfortable environment for both drivers.
Start Your Team Driving Career Today
If you’re ready to take your trucking career to the next level, team driving at U.S. Xpress offers the miles, pay, and support you need to succeed. Getting started is simple, with three ways to become a team driver:
Sponsorship Program: An experienced driver (with at least 12 months on the road) partners with a CDL school student or recent graduate, running as a team for a minimum of six months after the student completes training. During this time, both the driver and student receive additional training pay.
Pre-Made Teams: Already have a partner? Bring your team and get seated quickly after hire.
Partner Matching: Interested in teaming but don’t have a co-driver yet? We’ll match you with a qualified partner so you can get on the road faster.
