Chattanooga, Tenn. (May 28, 2020) U.S. Xpress, the nation’s fifth largest asset-based truckload carrier by revenue, today announced the 2019 graduates of its Post 9-11 GI Bill® Apprenticeship Program.

U.S. Xpress, which began its participation in 2017, is among a few trucking companies to have a military apprentice program approved by the Veterans Administration.

“From their work ethic to skilled experiences, veterans bring a wealth of value to our organization,” said Eric Fuller, president and CEO of U.S. Xpress. “We’re honored to be able to support these individuals who have honorably served our country.”

Participants in U.S. Xpress’ Apprenticeship Program are eligible to receive up to 24 months of compensation from the VA while also earning on-the-job training as professional truck drivers and driver managers. Similarly, shop technicians who are participants in U.S. Xpress’ Apprenticeship Program are eligible for up to 36 months of compensation.

Members of the graduating class include:

Robert Benson, Sergeant, Army National Guard

Currently nine percent of the company’s workforce is comprised of veterans from all five branches of the military.

In addition to the U.S. Xpress’ Apprenticeship Program, the company offers an advanced rate of pay program for veterans with CDL licenses, allowing veterans who qualify to start at the same rate of pay as a driver with two years of experience. U.S. Xpress has also been named to the 2020 Military Friendly® Employers list, making an appearance for the last three years.
