U.S. Xpress Showcases State-of-the-Art Driving Simulator at RILA Conference

Chattanooga, Tenn. (March 1, 2019) – U.S. Xpress (NYSE:USX), the nation’s fifth largest asset-based truckload carrier by revenue, displayed the Company’s new competency-aligned simulator during the annual LINK 2019: RILA’s Retail Supply Chain Conference in Orlando on February 24-27, 2019. U.S. Xpress is the largest truckload carrier to begin implementing a competency-aligned simulator program within their driver development efforts that leverages technology such as: augmented reality, lane keep assist and collision avoidance. The goal of the training program is to provide U.S. Xpress drivers with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a lifetime of, and millions of miles of, successful driving.

The virtual truck training program, developed by Virage Simulation, is an interactive modular driving simulator and training system. The simulator provides drivers with a high-resolution visual system, force-loaded steering that gives a feel for different terrains, automatic and manual transmissions with realistic grinding and kickbacks, as well as a combination of truck and tractor configurations. The simulator’s advanced technology records the drivers for an integrated feedback system and debrief station.

“It is an honor to have a chance to collaborate with the most innovative company to deploy our training solution and to customize it to go even further,” stated Remi Quimper, Vice President of Business Development, Virage Simulation. “It is exciting to see the reaction of people looking at the simulator and witness their understanding on how this can improve driver training operations.”

“Virage Simulation designed the technology to have specific configurations to model U.S. Xpress trucks,” stated Justin Harness, Chief Marketing Officer, U.S. Xpress. “The simulator empowers drivers for continuous learning in a safe environment and sets them up for long term success.”

The simulator is part of a larger transformation at U.S. Xpress. It will play a key role in the Company’s Professional Driver Development program. The Company’s new development program utilizes best-in-class learning and development techniques, using a technology-driven approach for teachings, replacing lecture-style classes.
