Celebrating 25 Years of Service & Leadership
A Message From Co-Chairmen Max Fuller & Patrick Quinn
On January 21, 1986, U.S. Xpress began what continues to be an amazing journey since the company picked up our first load of freight. As we mark the silver anniversary of those first miles, we wanted to express our appreciation and our gratitude to all our employees. Thanks to your hard work and dedication, you helped U.S. Xpress to grow from that foundation of 48 trucks when we began operations 25 years ago to become the second-largest privately-owned truckload carrier in the nation today.
Every member of our U.S. Xpress work family plays a vital role. Whether you are maintaining our equipment in the shop, working in one of our service centers, reaching out to a customer on a sales call, or are a member of a department working at our corporate headquarters, we are thankful for your efforts in keeping our drivers and our customers’ freight rolling down the highway.
All of us have a deep appreciation for the mile-by-mile efforts carried out each day by our drivers and contractors. You are the backbone of our company, and your dedication to service and safety continues to earn praise from our customers as your good work keeps U.S. Xpress on the move.
Some of you have been with us since the Company’s earliest days, and, like us, you can recall that feeling as U.S. Xpress began to make our mark on the transportation landscape. From the day of hauling the first load when fuel prices had the largest single decline in history, we could feel a momentum that promised success. When you add those changes in the market to the fact that we truly believed that we were in the right place at the right time with the right group of services, U.S. Xpress had the foundation to achieve great things. The heartbeat of that foundation is you, our people.
Over the past 25 years, we have been truly blessed to welcome people to our organization who have lifted U.S. Xpress to a highly respected position of leadership within the transportation industry. Each of you has helped lead the effort to raise the bar for our industry and assist us each day in delivering the service that matters to our customers. Each of you has helped our organization serve as innovators for our industry.
Our goal was never to be the biggest trucking company. Our goal has always been to be best transportation company. Thanks to your continued dedication to excellence, you have been the very people who are making that vision a reality.
As we began to put together today’s event, we have received a number of well wishes and congratulatory notes. American Trucking Associations President and CEO Bill Graves made a heart-felt observation that is a compliment to our entire organization.
Gov. Graves wrote: “The U.S. Xpress story is a classic example of how two hard-working, risk-taking, smart young men created a terrific company that has provided economic opportunity for thousands of employees – while also serving the needs of thousands of customers.”
Those words hold a deep place of appreciation for both of us because they speak to the contribution that all our associates have made and continue to make through your sterling efforts each day. U.S. Xpress is a can-do company, and all of you are can-do people. You are the reason U.S. Xpress continues to shine within the communities that we serve and within our industry.
Transportation is an essential industry that keeps the nation’s economy moving in both tough times and in our most prosperous days, and transportation is a people business. We truly value the relationship that we have built with our employees, our customers, vendors and other partners during the past 25 years.
As we commemorated our 25th anniversary with an event that brought together some of the drivers and office staff who were with us at the very beginning, please know that we were also thinking of all our employees. If it were possible to personally thank each one of you, we would do so. That is how much everyone here means to us. Family has always been very important to both of us, and we are proud to say that we now have nearly 10,000 members of the U.S. Xpress Family.
Thank you again for your work that has allowed U.S. Xpress to reach this memorable milestone. As we look at the challenges and opportunities in the future, we believe, because of the collective strength of the U.S. Xpress Family, our best days as a company are still ahead of us.
