U.S. Xpress Veteran Driver Nominated to Win a 2017 Kenworth T680

We believe veterans deserve to be supported and celebrated for the values and skills they bring to the trucking industry. That’s why we nominated our very own Marine Corps combat veteran, Wayne Roy, for FASTPORT’s Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award.

Wayne is currently one of three finalists in the running! If he wins, he’ll receive a 2017 Kenworth T680 (valued at $155,000), and be recognized as America’s top military rookie driver. Wayne wants to take his career from Company Driver to Owner Operator, so he’s excited about the opportunity to win the new truck and start running his own business with US Xpress right away.

It’s easy and takes just a couple of clicks. Plus, you get to vote once a day, so feel free to keep coming back. Just be sure to start now — voting ends October 31! (Voting has ended.)

Wayne’s Story

For many reasons, Wayne couldn’t be more deserving of the Driving for Excellence Award. He’s only been hauling freight for a year, but he’s already eager to take his career to the next level. “My fiancé and I want to become Owner Operators,” he said. And if Wayne wins this award, the grand prize Kenworth will accelerate the couple’s pursuit significantly.

Aside from his sheer ambition, Wayne has a huge heart for helping people, a passion he believes the military fostered in him. “In the Marine Corps, we are shown to go above and beyond in everything that we do. I will always jump out of the truck and help a fellow driver no matter what company he or she works for.” This is the kind of driver you’d like to be on the same route with.

What’s more, his care for others translates to one of his core business goals: To help new drivers excel and succeed in trucking by providing quality training. “We want to help give as many opportunities to the new drivers as possible to better the trucking industry — to get professional drivers in here and make sure they thrive.”

In addition to the driving skills he practices, Wayne’s Marine Corps experience is sure to rub off on his trainees. “They trained us to be aware of our surroundings; to anticipate what’s going to happen.” It’s clear Wayne’s military experience has served him — and will continue to serve him as he moves forward in his career.

We’re proud to call Wayne Roy one of our own, along with the rest of our professional veteran drivers.
